KELAH HOUSE IN MBALE, UGANDA

In 2017 I became aware of the huge issue of abandoned children in Mbale, Uganda. Leah and I established a rehabilitation centre for them which started with 12 boys and has gradually expanded. As of 2025, We have now ‘graduated’ 20 children and they have been replaced with new young arrivals, which now include girls as well as boys. They account for 6 of our 16 present children, and we have bought sewing machines and material for them to make the childrens’ school uniforms. We have undertaken a major rebuilding program at Kelah House, expanding into a third dormitory and introducing showers, solar panels, a classroom, and extended gardens for growing our own food. As our children attain academic qualifications they move to senior school, and we now have a record 4 pupils at this stage. Some of them are motivated to train as social workers to address the vicious circle of poverty and illness that triggers homelessness among so many other youngsters in this beautiful country. We remain incredibly grateful to our many friends and sponsors for their support, donations and prayers for the Kelah kids.

Our programs at both the Academy of Hope in South Sudan and Kelah House in Uganda have already together supported over 300 disadvantaged young people since 2017, offering them care, concern and education and the chance to improve not just their prospects, but those of their fellow countrymen.
